Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How do I know if my child needs occupational, physical or speech therapy?
A. You are welcome to contact the clinic and talk to a therapist about your child. A therapist will answer your questions and guide you to the next step in scheduling an evaluation if you determine an evaluation is needed.
Q. What makes Fun Kids unique?
A. Fun Kids has experienced therapists who are trained in several specialty areas which may be implemented in your child’s treatment program.
At Fun Kids we seek to understand the complexities of your family life and work hard to address your family and child’s needs.
Q. How do I get started?
A. Contact the clinic with any questions or concerns.
Schedule an evaluation through our receptionist. Next, you will receive some paperwork or questionnaires regarding your child’s development and health history. Once an evaluation is completed, a therapist will review the results with you. If treatment is indicated, our staff will find treatment days and times that work for you. If you are only available on a specific day, or need a popular time, (5:00 on Thursday), you might have to be placed on a waiting list until that time is available.
Q. What happens during the evaluation?
A. Check in at the front desk. They will take your temperature and ask a series of COVID questions. You will need to bring a copy of your insurance card to the appointment. The therapist may have additional questionnaires for you.
The evaluation session is typically scheduled for an hour. During that time you may be asked to wait in the car, (due to COVID). If your child needs you, we will bring you in so you can support them.
Your child will be evaluated using structured or unstructured evaluation methods, depending upon their skill level. The therapist may have some suggestions for you about how to help your child at the end of the evaluation session. It will take a few weeks for the therapist to compile the data. Our therapist will review the information with you after 2 – 4 weeks.
Q. Who will help me with insurance issues?
A. The billing staff will verify your insurance coverage. If your insurance changes at any time, be sure to let the clinic know as soon as possible. Some insurance companies or plans require prior authorizations before they will pay for services, and will not give authorizations retroactively. The billing staff is available by phone or email to help you if you have questions or issues. We will advocate alongside you on these issues.
Q. What if I have to cancel?
A. If you have a planned absence coming up, let your therapist know and they will give you options for rescheduling at a different time. For unplanned absences, such as illness or car trouble, call the receptionist as soon as possible to let them know if you are running late or YOU have to cancel. The receptionist will attempt to find a makeup appointment for you in person or OVER telehealth.
Therapy is hard work for your child. If he or she has symptoms of illness, please keep them home until the symptom is gone for 24 hours.
